Handwoven Youth is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to advancing inclusive education and expanding literacy resources for public school students, educators, and families. Our mission is to ensure that every student has access to a diverse range of books and resources that allow them to feel seen, heard, inspired, and valued on their educational journey.
We invite you to get involved by filling out our volunteer form and joining our Give-a-Book campaign to support literacy for all. Together, we can make a lasting impact in public schools.
Handwoven Youth supports teachers and students by building and updating representative classroom libraries, with a focus on schools that lack a library or need critical upgrades. In addition, we offer curated booklists, available here, and host a series of workshops, which you can explore here.
Handwoven Youth uniquely combines literacy advocacy with cultural representation by partnering directly with community organizations, prominent figures, and schools to amplify diverse narratives and increase access to foundational principles through our workshops. Our programs are tailored to address the specific needs of under-resourced communities, equipping students, teachers, and families with resources that reflect their identities and foster enriched educational outcomes.
We welcome donations of new and gently used books that offer a variety of perspectives and stories. Please review our Book Donation Guidelines for recommendations and instructions. Your book donations help us provide students and educators with engaging literature that inspires imagination, curiosity, and a connection to their learning journey.
